Active changes
Immigration New Zealand has officially recognised 87 new occupations under the National Occupation List (NOL) for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). The NOL replaces the old ANZSCO framework and will now be updated annually to reflect the modern job market.
Eligible students can now work up to 25 hours per week during study periods (previously 20). This change supports international students through the International Education Going for Growth Plan.
All Guardian Visitor Visa applications must now be lodged through the enhanced Immigration Online system, offering a more efficient and consistent digital process.
New arrangements from this date simplify visitor travel for eligible Pacific Island Forum and Chinese nationals coming from Australia, strengthening both tourism and family mobility links.
Additional changes
On 24 November 2025 INZ will open applications for the new Business Investor Work Visa, designed to attract experienced businesspeople to invest in established New Zealand enterprises.
Some of the main key features are:
On 1 December 2025 – INZ will only accept Police Clearance Certificate for Indian Applicants issued by Regional Passport Offices in India for applicants residing in India.
Mid-2026 – the Government will implement changes to the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, aimed at helping employers retain skilled workers and supporting New Zealand’s long-term economic growth.
Further details will be released closer to implementation.
These progressive updates mark an important phase of transition — with INZ moving toward digital systems, streamlined investor pathways, and more adaptable occupation frameworks.
